Groove Tube 12AX7R
This is a new tube from Russia, and is slightly brighter and lower in gain, but quicker in compression than the original GT12AX7. These older
style Russian types have a strong tone but are a little edgy. Great for most Fenders, but may not be well suited for high gain type
amps (such as Boogie). Item # GT12AX7R. |

Groove Tube 12AT7
This tube is widely
used in many US-made amps and, in particular, the Fender amps. Fender amps with reverb use two 12AT7s - one for the reverb
drive stage, and one used as a phase inverter to drive the push/pull output stage. The 12AT7s make-up is very similar to the 12AX7 and can
be substituted for a 12AX7 in a pinch, although it won't sound very good. Some players do prefer to use the 12AT7 in the driver stage in
a Marshall for a cleaner, brighter tone. (The driver or phase inverter is the 12AX7 located nearest the power tubes.) The 12AT7 is
rarely used in a tone-generating stage, but rather in function stages, so the GT12AT7 is selected for durability. This tube will some
times bear the number 6201 as well as 12AT7. The GT12AT7 is tested under extreme listening conditions and guaranteed to be free of excess noise and microphonic ring.

GT-ECC83
Classic Euro type with medium to high gain and a linear
frequency response. Very clear even tone with good bass character.
This is the standard tube that was used in Marshall amplifiers and
Vox amplifiers. For those that change first stage gain preamp tubes
to change the taste and character of their amps (remember, this can
be done in less than a minute without tools, adjustments, or a
"tech"). This is one tube that should be in your basic toolbox. The
basic tube sets generally are the 12AX7C, ECC83, and 7025 to cover a
wide range of styles and tastes for most amplifiers. |

6L6C Matched Pair
GT exclusive design high power 5881 short bottle. This is a
very high vacuum tube that is very stable. It's sweet tone but
defined character was a mainstay in the Fender tweed era amps of the
1950s and early 1960s.
The tube's short height allows easy use in amps such as Mesa rack
mount amps and Marshall power blocks with ease. Item #GT6L6CD |

EL84 Matched Duet
Russia EL84, Good quality, long
lasting type with a slightly aggressive edge when pushed into
overdrive.
Most common low power pentode, popularized in early Vox AC30 amps. Rediscovered by Matchless amps and now currently used by
nearly every tube amp company. Quick, soft overdrive distortion, great for recording but usually too low volume for live gigs.
